Modern Kraft Poster

In class we were given the task to come up with a poster for a Graphic Design Conference.

My idea was to have something very simple but eye catching ..... I seen a similar design to the one I used for 'modern kraft' and really thought that would work well in my poster. When looking at logos of computer brands and software I found red and blue and black were very dominant colours so I choose to use these colours in my work

FEEDBACK:
(Poster 1) I had allot of positive feedback on my work mainly in regards to how i split up the text. In relation to the text and main heading "modern Kraft" i was given feedback to perhaps make the words "modern" stand out a bit more so they are more readable and easier to understand.
Another comment made was when first glancing at the poster its hard to know what its about, so i will look at ways the perhaps make 'Graphic Design Conference' stand out.
Also People were not sure about the conflicting angles of my wrk as it read vertical and then there are stripes running down the page .... so i will have a look a different shapes and try some different things or perhaps minimize this to see how it looks.
(Poster 2 ) My second poster was not as 'liked' as my first. comments made on my second poster was that it reminded people of russian constructivism work.
My second poster was a bit of a rush and i would like to play a bit more with colour and things but people tended to like the pencil and the red flow reminded them of a river .... which it was not meant to

Just Some Things I Fancied......

These are other peoples work that I found on Deviantart.com when I was having a quick look today =)

Children's Illustrations

In class we were asked to sketch five children's illustrations and make them using illustrator, these are my characters ......

I wanted my character to be different to their real life colours so that they attracted a younger audience.
At the moment I haven't thought of personalities only names and colours .... I am unsure of of the lion and its colour as it is close in colour to a lion and isn't really "out there". Also Luke suggested all my characters are facing front view on, whereas my turtle is not ..... This may be something  I have to change ......

Rainbow Island Childcare - Report

Today in class we were asked to form groups and come up with a Logo for a Graphic Design company.
I was placed in a group with Pip and Michelle and we were asked to come up with our own company name, we came up with PMS Design the name came from the initials of each of our first name.
Our clients name was Peter Brown who just opened his own Childcare centre called Rainbow Island Childcare centre. The childcare centre could have no more than 20 children. The centre catered to children from two years of age to six years of age and is located in Copland Street Wagga Wagga. The name “rainbow Island Childcare” came from an old computer game that the client was very fond of as a child.
Peter wanted a logo that was bright, fun, and easy to read and wanted a different approach to "the basic rainbow", as he tried to create a few logos himself and found that they failed. Peter was only starting the business and didn’t have a big budget to create the logo.

Initially when I received the job I brainstormed many ideas in my head and sketched a few ideas down. When discussing it as a group we told each other what ideas we had come up with and what we thought of images and colours we could use. We then decided to elaborate and have a look on the net and see what we could find to inspire us a bit more. I found that there were so many ideas running through my head that it was hard to get them all onto paper.

Our group discussed ideas and what we thought would be a good logo for a childcare business, we then looked on the Internet at other childcare businesses and also images of rainbows and "kiddie" stuff. We had a really good Company to work with as there were so many colours and so many ideas to work from.

In my initial designs I had that idea of the rainbow incorporated into the business name, but once looking at the net I found I was drawn to cute animals and different things such as puzzle pieces planets balloons etc. These are my original images that I quickly scetched down (they area bit rough but you get the idea)

When showing these images to my group they lent towards the cow and the puppy holding the balloons, although other images may have looked better if I spent more time on neater illustrations. With my first revision from the client I took the two images my group preferred as these were the strongest images and very “kiddie related”. I think these designs were much more “tight” and stood out more than the others. I tried to be a little neater and to add colour to these images to get a more relistic view of what the end product might look like.
These are the images I created to show the client.

I found our group had a really good client to work with and a very fun and creative logo to come up with. We all discussed our ideas and sketched them on paper and showed each other our designs and discussed what could look better and the images that stood out the most. From those designs we developed them on the computer which I believe helped me immensely using illustrator. When doing my illustrations I come up with the cow picking up letters (Image above) I found that the other words did not fit in neatly. I then decided to have them on the cow itself and play with the colours and text in illustrator.

I am happy with my end design, I think our team came up with allot of really great ideas. In response to my own logo I really like the image, it is very cute and I can defiantly see it on a childcare sign. Hopefully the client is happy with the logo, although at the stage im at I doubt I would be confident doing a logo for a real business and would like to spend allot more time in doing up a logo. For this logo that took me a day to do I would charge about $1 000 for my design.
I felt that there were some areas of the typography that could do with fixing and things that I could add but at the end of the day having the typography already there for me made it much easier.

I found this exercise really fun and I liked the feedback given by Luke (as himself and Peter) and also the group I worked in. I’d rather someone tell me my work is crap than say it’s good just to be polite as I want to grow and get honest ideas because in reality its a cruel world. This exercise is exactly what I thought Graphic Design was about but I’m learning that there’s even more to it than just logos though.
I liked having a group input as it narrowed down other people’s opinions and made me develop stronger logos rather than logos that didn’t stand out in the first place.

Our client had an awesome business and a great fun exciting logo that had heaps of room to move and allot of exciting potential.
At the level I’m at, I would have liked to have more time to study other logos and develop my logos allot more for the client and work out which ones co-workers liked and which ones to scrap.

Over all I liked this activity I was a bit nervous at first with meeting the client as everyone was watching what was said and how you replied to the client’s needs and felt I had more of a pressure on me to come up with a good idea.
This is my end design.

THE NOISE LOGO

we were asked to come up with a few sketches of a logo for 'the noise' and a poster and Logo in photoshop.
This is what i came up with;

When it came to doing it on photoshop I had alot of trouble getting my ideas to work as I wasnt sure on how to use all the tools on Photoshop.
This is my logo ......

and this is my poster.....

If i get time i have a few more ideas on colours and layouts as i think this could look much better than it does.
-get rid of background a keep grey.
-make "the Noise" stand out much more than it does.
-move image down.
